Extreme Landscapes is a great enhancement to the FS virtual experiance.
It's great that I can now "run the canyon" up the Hudson River below the cliffs of the
Palisades but I was amazed that the George Washington bridge had sunk into the river.
Nobody told me? I discovered a canyon just to the north on the New Jersey side and another
canyon north of Niagara Falls, both below sea level. Amazing! I never knew they were there.
There are a number of canyons on the Jersey side of the Hudson River north of the GW bridge.
They are all 300 to 400 feet below sea level. Exploration is fun, there are buildings stuck
in the walls hundreds of feet in the air. I also found two very narrow pits that exploration
is a real test of your helicopter skills.
Up near Bear Mountain you can also see lakes that go vertical up the sides of the terrain. Amazing!
Here's a reply from the terrain author...Justin Tyme
I'll have a fix for the third one before the end of the day. Was just
discovered here last night. (New Jersey)
The other two are beyond the scope of the terrain mesh, as they are problems
with the default scenery that aren't addressed by terrain mesh. The GW
bridge is hard-coded at a slope for some reason and would have to be fixed
by decompilation of the default BGL and recompiled to correct its
orientation.
The Niagara canyon is a problem with the elevation of that default lake in
the foreground. Note the lake right behind it that it at proper elevation. These
issues cannot be fixed.
I was told that the New Jersey canyon problems have been corrected and the updated
CD's are "in the mail". I will post the results here when I get the new version. - - - It's
been several months and the "mail" still has not arrived.
